Rhetoric

Expressing Wisdom

The rhetoric phase moves past knowledge and understanding into the realm of wisdom. Students are expected to take the information they’ve acquired, going beyond simple connections, and to communicate their understanding winsomely. Whether in speech, action, or writing, we train our students to express truth in a persuasive manner that will impact the culture for God’s glory. By completing this third stage of classical education, the student will be a knowledgeable individual who is a sharp thinker and has the virtue and compassion to share his learning for the better of his fellow man.

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.
James 3:13

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Colossians 4:6

Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
Proverbs 17:27

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29
