Kindergarten Assessment

Every rising kindergartener must go through our kindergarten assessment. The kindergarten assessment is typically scheduled for the Saturday morning after Presidents’ Day. It attempts to ascertain a student’s overall readiness for kindergarten. Some of the items assessed include:

  • Counting to 20

  • Ordering numbers 0-10

  • Recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters (target goal is 18 and 15 respectively)

  • Writing name and drawing self-portrait

  • Listening to a story read aloud

If a student is unable to do the above or if we believe the student is not quite ready for kindergarten for other reasons, we may recommend additional practice in the following months or delaying kindergarten for a year.
