Every year, PCA hosts a Greek and Roman olympics (field day) called Greekfest. It is a day the students and many parents look forward to all year. The students dress in ancient Greek or Roman attire and families are encouraged to come in costume as well.
In an era that seems to say, “we know better” and “let’s reinvent the wheel,” these parents have boldly embraced the old paths of teaching that seeks to impart knowledge, yes, but also teaches children to think deeply and exhibit great character by training the mind to think God’s thoughts after Him.
Giving Him all I’ve got effects everything, my budget, my calendar, my phone plan, and my dinner plans. I’ve become convinced that everything I allow myself to do or not do in life effects my heart, soul and mind. I want to offer Him the best I can and I intend to spend my life improving what I have to give. As a parent, I will bend over backwards to keep my kids at PCA because I believe down to my core that at PCA, my kids are learning to love God with all they’ve got, and I can see that what they have is being improved upon rapidly and with excellence.
PCA has taught me that the mind is a unique tool. I can’t tell my heart what to feel or convince my soul to deeply desire something. I can, however, teach my mind new things with great intentionality. If I’m going to love God with all my mind, then I would be smart to offer Him the best my mind can be.
If the first and greatest of God’s commandments to us is to love Him with all of our dreams and desires down to our core – our soul, then it seems to me that I need to be very intentional in helping my children develop ideas, goals and dreams that are full of Biblical truth and that honor God. One of the things I have always loved about PCA is that the teachers, the board, and the philosophy behind the school are all driven by the deeper things in life – the soul issues.
In the next several posts, I’m going to talk about what it means, in my perspective of course, to love God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all I’ve got. I will also highlight a few areas where I see this viewpoint being reflected in Pinnacle Classical Academy. I’ll tackle the heart in this post.
Every parent has their own reasons for choosing their child’s school, these are simply mine. This is the first of several posts describing the major reasons why my husband and I chose Pinnacle Classical Academy for our kids’ education.
